All about that mahj…

Mah Jongg is a Chinese tile game from the 1800s that came to the United States in the 1920s. There were many variations (and still are!) but in 1937, a group of Jewish women got together and created a standardized set of rules and what is now known as the National Mah Jongg League. Every year they release a new playing card with new hands to keep everyone on their toes!

As an American Mah Jongg Instructor, I strictly teach by the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules. This ensures you can play anywhere: tournaments, Mah Jongg charity events, open plays and other groups with confidence in your knowledge and skills.

Classes Offered

Mah Jongg 101:

An introductory class to American Mah Jongg. Learn the tiles, how to read the NMJL card, how to set up a game, deal, the Charleston, call, game play and more!

Mah Jongg 102:

You know the basics, now you practice! This class will start with a review of everything learned in Mah Jongg 101, and then play to help learn the flow of the game and build confidence. I will guide as needed and answer questions that come up along the way.

Mah Jongg 103:

Now that you’ve been practicing and feel confident in the rules and flow of the game, let’s work on strategies and defensive play! You must complete Mah Jongg 101 and 102 to take 103.

Siamese Mah Jongg:

Double the racks, double the fun! Siamese Mah Jongg is a 2-player version of Mah Jongg. Very similar to regular Mah Jongg but with some fun spins (and a different card!) to give your brain some fun tingles!

Open Play:

Open play events are for those who know how to play and want to get some practice in! I’ll be on site to help with questions as they arise, but this is for you to come and play and have some fun!
